Group Counseling

 

 

Group counseling - we all do it.  Some school psychologists feel it's the best part of their day, while others find it a bit more cumbersome.  Wherever you fall on the spectrum (us school psychs love our spectrums, don't we?!), you'll be sure to find these resources helfpul.  Whether you want a starting point, or just want some ideas to help spice up a group that's already doing great, you're sure to find it here!  

 

Interactive Activities for Middle school Students - Produced by Marco Products, this book is complete with 18 pages of group activities that are great for students of all ages.  

 

The Counselor's Room - I cannot say enough about this resource!  You can choose the group you are working with (by grade, classroom, small group, etc.) and a list of resources for different topics are presented.  Just click on the link for a free lesson plan on that topic.  

 

Teaching Social Skills to Middle School Students - a free research-based resource, complete with lesson plans and handouts for teaching social skills to middle school students.  Provided by Emilly Worsnopp

 

Elementary School Counseling - Free lesson plans on a variety of topics (anxiety, divorce, grief, social skills and more).  Website created by Marissa Rex.  

 

Saint Paul Public Schools - Free lesson plans for various groups including: Gr 4-6 Academic Success Group, Impulsive Behavior/ADHD Support, Friendship Support Group K-2 and 3-5 and Grief Support Group.

School Counselor Groups - A pinterest board with lots of great activities for counseling groups in the schools.
