Behavior Management
We all haev those moments... you know the ones... where for some reason, our feathers are ruffled. It makes it hard to concentrate, and we can tend to "dig our heels in" when asked to do something. Some students have the same occassional problem. And some students have these moments more frequently, sometimes on a daily - or even hourly - basis. Anger problems may range from quiet refusals to becoming verbally or physically aggressive. The sooner we learn to manage these behaviors in the classroom, the more likely the student is to decrease the behavior. Below are some strategies to help:
BIP - Behavior Intervntion Plans as suggested by PBIS World - Scroll down to the section entitled "PBIS World BIPs." Choose the behavior that the student is showing most often, and the document will walk you through the BIP process.
Classroom Behavior Management Strategies - Behavior Advisor, Dr. Macintyre - This may be my most favorite website on behavior management. Dr. Mac's writing style is straighforward, easy to read, humorous, and sometimes off the cuff! Definitely bookmark this one...
How to Handle an Angry, Verbally Agressive Student - Smart Classroom Management - Gives some excellent ineffective responses, as well as those that are more effective.
PBIS World - Positive Behavior Intervention Strategies for many different types of behaviors. This site splits the level of service into Tier 1, 2 and 3, to go along with RTI (or VTSS - VA Tiered Systems of Support).
