You may have heard in the news lately that things have changed when it comes to diagnosing Autism. The separate categories (such as Asperger's Disorder) no longer are used. All persons now fall under the category "Autism Spectrum Disorder" (ASD). Nonetheless, plenty of people still use the terms "Aspergers" and "High Functioning Autism." Just be aware that they are all under the same category now, ASD.
Having a student with Autism Spectrum Disorder in your class may be a challenge... or it may not, depending on how it affects the student's behavior and academic functioning. Hopefully the resources below will be helpful:

ASD - The Short for Secondary Teachers - Gives information on how Autism affects the secondary student, as well as ways to make accomodations and interventions in the classroom.
